VOLUMINOUS CURLS (1975)

Although not all women would prefer this hairstyle, still in the mid-70s, the voluminous curls became a trend. We guess there are just women who would rather have refined curls with much volume more than just defined waves. In the photo, the ‘70s supermodel, Beverly Johnson, represent such women and shows the degree of the extensive curls just the way these ladies want it.

WEDGE HAIRCUT (1976)

This refreshing cut designed by Vidal Sassoon’s protégé, Trevor Sorbie, became a trend back in the mid to late ‘70s. This wedge style haircut represents something fresh and new for many women back in the day. We guess it was a style more for the working women at that time. The cut features almost a triangular silhouette that ends right off around the ears. Famous woman to credit for popularizing the style is no other than skater Dorothy Hamill, when she won a gold medal in 1976 Olympics.

BLEACH BLONDE (1977)

Punky looks back in the day include the fashion sense, attitude, and hairstyle to go with the image. In the photo, Debbie Harry rocked her shaggy cut, bleach blonde do, and it was all cool pretty punky! This style is so attractive and punky to the degree that punky ladies today would intentionally bleach themselves blonde and achieve a similar look.

FARRAH WAVES (1978)

Who would forget the Farrah waves? This hairstyle was popularized by Farrah Fawcett, featuring her unforgettable hair as she performed a credit role in the movie Charlie’s Angels. This hairstyle features highlighted, blown out, and full, sweeping waves, which inspired many women to go for the look. Although it may come a bit out-dated today, it can still be something glamorously wearable for the ‘70s themed parties.

SPIKY PUNK HAIR (1979)

Punk came back a ‘lil more extreme this year. Towards the end of the decade, musician Siouxsie Sioux took credit for this gothic-punk style that surprisingly became quite a trend for many women. With the rise of rock n’ roll, comes also the hairstyle to go for it along with the clothing to wear it with. This trend took quite a shift, at least in the fashion world and hairstyles.

1980: EDGY SHAG (1980)

Another punkish look was introduced and lead by Joan Jett, who rocked this punky shag and popularized it. This razored style made it to the must-have list of trends in the ‘80s. What can we say, it must be the degree of the rock n’ roll hype! All the fans either they would wear this or the more elaborate spikes with no care, however short or long their hair level is. Oh well!

TOPKNOT (1981)

Back in the day, this hairstyle credited Iman for bringing it into the sphere of beauty. However, as the years go by, this knot became a staple for the lazy ladies. What most hurried woman would give just expertly to tie your hair into a knot like this. The cherry top bonus of this hairdo is the need for little effort and not sweating it at all. At least once in our life, I bet, at one point or another, we have opted for this hairdo. Whether to buy bread at the corner or do the usual errands, and it’s nothing but easy tie your hair to the topknot.

ASYMMETRICAL UPDO (1982)

Of all the hairstyles, this one is the most distinct one and owned only by the ‘80s. It was just only in this decade that Asymmetrical Updos were quite the trend. Anyone present in this decade, at one point, did succumb to a style similar to this. Whether one wears curly or straight hair, doing the hair asymmetrically is the way they did it at that time. They rocked the style, however the degree of imbalance, the better, the voluminous the hair all the better.

GIRL-NEXT-DOOR HAIR (1983)

No one wore and inspired this look better than Brooke Shields, and all the American girls were drawn and led to wear this style. Women everywhere started to grow their hair long and gave it more volume through loosely worn waves, which is the secret to achieve this look. This style is perfect for the free-spirited, carefree look every girl wants to achieve, so the more loose the waves, the better, although it may get to the degree that it’ll look a bit of a mess. But hey, messy look is actually a thing!

THE MULLET (1984)

The mullet is the style notable for America’s dark time, and it has long lasted and affected many. This cut doesn’t only credit to bold women who’d wear it but mostly to the men. Even up to the end of the ‘80s, this hairstyle was widely worn. So to those who were already living in the decade, you’re commended to have survived it without even a sign of having this tragic cut.
